October 2010

Fall so far has been incredibly busy at our house. Here are just a few highlights...

Z is continuing dance classes this fall. Her group was asked to perform some German dances at Octoberfest this year. The mommy's of the little girls got suckered in to this one, too. So, Z and I performed for a small crowd at the market. It was lots of fun!

Big J got a wild hair idea that he wanted to do some long open water swimming. So he signed up for a local 10 mile race in the river. Yes, I said 10 miles. In the river. In October. He completed the swim and did very well. We are so proud of him!

Z continued with her soccer games. She got better and better each time. By the end of the season, she would at least run after the ball during the game instead of standing there watching everyone else play. It must have been a hit though, because she has already asked me to sign her up again!
This year for Halloween, Z decided to be Spidergirl. In our town, no one could decide whether or not to trick or treat on Saturday or Sunday (no kidding). We ended up going on Saturday, which was the busiest Saturday of our lives (Normalpalooza, soccer, Disney on Ice then Trick or Treat), so we are short on photos this year. The number of folks at home waiting for children on Saturday was kind of low, but Z never noticed--she had an awesome time!

Kick It!

Z really enjoyed watching her cousin and other friends playing soccer last year, so she said she wanted to play this fall. So, we signed her up for the soccer league at the Y and suited her up with shin guards and cleats. She had her first game on Saturday. So far, she is doing OK at practice, but she has been put on a team with all (very aggressive) little boys and she got shy during the game. Hopefully, she will warm up and have fun playing soccer this fall!

First Day of School

Z started Kindergarten at a new school this year. We were nervous about the change, but so far, everything seems to be working out great! This school is close enough to our house that we get to walk to and from school every day. What great memories this will make!

Summer is Here!

And the Howard's started off the summer with a trip to the beach! The trip was a last minute decision, but it turned out to be an awesome getaway.
This was Z's only second time to the beach, and she was too young the first time to remember much about it. She had a great time playing in the waves of the ocean with Daddy!
When we weren't basking in the sun by the ocean, we stopped for a game of "golly golf" and we took some time to play in the many swimming pools at the hotel.
Now we are back to the same old, same old, but we are all a little browner and we have some wonderful memories from our weekend at the beach! I will post some photos in our Picasa Albums as soon as I get a chance.

Dancin' the Night Away

Z had a busy week because the day after her luau, she had her dance recital. It was a week full of rehearsals and performances!

For their first number, Z's class did a dance to "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" from the Aristocats. The girls were so cute in their Hello Kitty costumes that they just LOVED.

The girls then did a dance to "Three Little Fishes" for their tap number. This one was done all out island style.

Z did a great job in the recital and we were so proud. She was most excited because Nonna was able to make it to the show!

Wow, a Luau!

Pre-K had a luau a few weeks ago. This was a great show for the parents to see!
They started off outside with a PE show. The kids ran and jumped and went over and under things. Z started her course off with a bang, but could not finish without coming over to give Daddy a kiss. That was really cute.

The kids then got dressed up in their island attire and moved to the stage where they sang their little hearts out. After the show, we all went to have a luau party!
